El nuevo sonido caliente nació en
los guetos y ahora triunfa en Rep. Dominicana. Se llama “Dembow” y la denominan
la música más caliente del Caribe.
Puro Caribe y si no llevas sangre
“vamos a
Podemos hablar largo y tendido
Click here.

Hot Sounds in Dominican Republic
The new hot sound was born in the ghettos and
now triumphs in Dominican Republic. It is called "Dembow" and they
call it the hottest music in the Caribbean.
Pure Caribbean and if you do not carry
Caribbean blood the effort you will have to make to set the pace and the steps
and poses are insinuating great. This dance compared to the movements of
Shakira, we could say that an apprentice but for color tastes.
Start the music and accompanying electric
shocks shake the spine of the dancers that compared to other sinuous dances are
pure prudery. They really stick here. The woman bends in postures procaces
while the man attacks the son and if it is not enough he lifts his leg as if it
were a wheelbarrow.
The lyrics are not exactly opusian nor the
exquisite sounds as if symphonic was but here, the dembow is danced as a tribal
dance. It does not matter that we are in the bar of a disco or in the grocery
store on the corner, its sound of Jamaican origin and with mixtures of rap and
reggaeton put on any passer-by.
It is not a new sound, but it remained isolated
between the youthful generations and popular slums. The dembow was born in the
80's, but it has not been until the expansion of reggaeton worldwide and, above
all, homemade video that became viral. Although it is not exempt of complaints
and demonizations in tribunes and televisions since the woman appears like a
sexual object or the denigration of values.
Maybe that's why, for years the dembow was relegated
to the suburban bars. Where there are licenses and police checks. Radio
broadcasters have never given any space to it so as not to scare the quietest
listeners, or because most record executives remain white.
Of course, money is not. Only a few, like Los
Pepes and Bulin 47, have gained some benefit in this profession. And,
fundamentally, leaving outside the Dominican Republic. Most continue to
practice for hobby or as an extra chamba, looking for some occupation with
salary. "We go to parties and they pay us 120000 pesos more
residence". The rest usually pull a band of friends, some speakers and a
local or private address to play for a small pay and some drink.
Professional dancers, there are few in dembow,
the ones that abound are those of hip-hop, girly or funk who are the ones who
give more money but for lovers of tropical style dances know the steps of the
dembow is part of their roots And training.
Although according to Carlos Manuel of 27 years
says that the letters of before were made as more for one, now seeks to reach
more public and therefore are softer. But you can not forget something is the
street music with its pros and cons.
We can talk long and hard about what is good
and what is not but there is something in which no one thinks and is that it is
something cultural that only in its origin is understood and only people who
have lived there could understand it as a form Of expression, of way of living,
of feeling and of interpreting things.
The Caribbean is not Europe where everyone gets
up jaded, serious, plaintive and we look up to the sky to see if there is sun
or clouds and if better to take the gray or brown coat. The Caribbean is light,
only passion and life. Life there is different, shorter and with less
resources, so everything is different and you live with another intensity.
Whether it is right or not, whether or not that passion should be tempered ...
is not my business.
